The Proposal

7:43 PM

I met Dion for the first time about three years ago in Singapore. It was during his movie shoot, Merry Riana. From there onwards, time was moving so fast. We collect tons of memories together. Sad, happy, all together made us who we are today. Even until now, me and Dion keep asking each other, like how long we’ve been together. ‘Cause it seems like we’ve known each other for decades. Then we realize that actually it’s because we always cherish every moment that we have. It might be little in quantity but rich in quality. So it might be one of the good thing about this long distance relationship.

Just like all other couple, there are so many ups and downs. Laughter and tears. But it’s all worthed. Never once I regret meeting him. He’s God’s answer to my prayer. I remember back then after my last break up, I prayed to God. I was hoping for the right partner. The life partner. I was so tired with all the uncertainty and I want to settle down. I wanted to meet someone who value this life just the way I do. Someone who can turn me to be a better person and bring out the best in me.

So, there he is. He really just popped out in my life and become the main lead. I’m very sure it’s not love at first sight. I remember the first time I met him, I had no expectation at all. But from there, everything changed and it was so fast. There’s no "would you be my girlfriend” kind of question from this guy, but with his commitment, his consistency and all of his effort to keep our long distance relationship works, I just knew that he’s a keeper.

It’s really uneasy for us to keep this kind of long distance relationship for too long. That’s why me and Dion set a time frame. Time frame to motivate two of us, that we need to work our ass off to achieve it. Then here we are now! Together. Inseparable. We want to catch up all the quality times that we’ve been missing for years. We both agreed that long distance relationship will only work if both parties have a strong commitment and the most important thing you need to set a time frame. You should know when it will end. Otherwise, it would be tough.

Really saddening for us to hear some couple have to end their relationship because of the long distance. It might be not easy, but a good relationship is always worth to fight for. When you think he might be the one, someone who changes your life, turn you to be a better person, makes you happy and makes this world more beautiful for you,  I beg you ladies, don’t give up! Trust me, it will be worthed after all. You two will become stronger than ever. A solid couple.

Now, we’d like to share one of the happiest moment in our life, our proposal. For some of you, you might find it awkward to hear our proposal moment again since Dion already proposed to me last year. Yeah, for some of you who’s wondering what is it all about, here is the truth. In our family culture, Indonesian Chinese culture to be exact, when a couple have decided to step into more serious relationship and ready to get married, the groom to be has to come together with his family to propose and show his good will to the bride to be and her family. This is so called as the ‘official’ proposal.

The groom to be will come and bring a necklace ‘to tie’ the relationship with the bride to be. Both of the family will discuss when the wedding will be held and how it will be done. At the end of the ceremony, the groom and bride to be will distribute hampers filled up with 8 types of sweets, fruits and cookies to the family member as a symbol and also to announce that two of us have been officially off from the market.

So, let me present you, Mr and soon to be Mrs Wiyoko. Wish us luck and we hope that our story could inspire others, who might be struggling with their relationship or maybe still trying to find ‘the one’. Don’t lose faith. Don’t give up. Don’t forget to pray. He knows what’s best for us. Always.
